  • CONGENITAL HEART DEFECT AWARENESS
February 7, 2018

Over one million babies worldwide and about 1% of US babies are born each year with congenital heart defects (CHD) – the most common birth defect and the most common cause of infant death from birth defects. From February 7-14, 2018, Amazing Love Health Services, LLC will join the heart community in celebrating CHD Awareness Week that recognizes and brings awareness of this important disease. A congenital heart defect is an abnormality with the structure of the heart that is present at birth including holes in the heart’s chambers, defective vessels, and leaky valves. CHD can be caused by problems with genes, taking certain medications, viral infection with rubella, or alcohol/drug abuse during pregnancy. Some congenital heart defects can be repaired with catheter procedures or surgeries but most are fatal if left untreated. According to the Center for Disease Control, only about 69% of babies born with critical CHDs are expected to survive to 18 years of age, and mortality is greatest during the first year of age. We care about people born with CHD every day of the year but this is a special opportunity to celebrate them and to raise funds and awareness so that we can help more people born with heart problems. Everyone can promote the prevention of CHD by education pregnant women around us on the importance of taking folic acid supplement daily and avoiding alcohol/drug consumption during pregnancy. Are you willing to spread the word and raise more awareness to help children born with CHD live longer, healthier, happier lives? Share this post and save lives.
